Description

Here I have combined data from 19 Jan with that collected during a rare clear spell last night.

The famous Leo trio deserves more data to bring out the fine detail in each of these interacting galaxies. Combining data has given me 4.75 hours, but seeing limited resolution.

Revision C is the data gathered last night, a combination of 180s and 300s exposures. I was disappointed with the overall colour and detail, so decided to crop the image to focus on the trio (Rev A).

Data were captured in Stellarmate OS using my RPi4, calibrated in Nebulosity and processed using Cyril Richard’s excellent SiRIL. I’m making progress with this, but still struggling to pull out colour, especially the blue star clouds that adorn M66.

Rev B (final) was processed in SiRIL then finished in Startools, to I try and bring up the galaxies from the background and provide a bit more colour and detail.

[Post - the final version (D) is a combination of three data sets 5.5 hours, using drizzled data to bring back to full resolution, before severe cropping as a result of camera rotation between imaging sessions].

As with most things a matter of preference, personally I prefer a pie 🥧 over a burger every time.
